The network's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and supported its peculiarly charming style.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
