Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades After Leading Abusive Songs About Coach Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side only seven months following instigating insulting chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has put pen to paper on a deal with the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting insulting songs about Wilder amid Leeds' promotion party this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to lift the team he loves away from the drop zone.

Past History Involving the Striker & the Manager

The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation & Moving Forward

All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his career.

The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder said at the time: “Had a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem at all with that. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion with him and he is a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I'm fine with it and I said that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 games with Leeds United last season however the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
