New York City Mayor Eric Adams to Endorse Andrew Cuomo in NYC Mayoral Race

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams has announced his intention to back former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming election for mayor, even after months of disagreements between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Recent Criticism

Just last month, Adams had lashed out at the former governor, calling him a ā€œsnake and a untruthful personā€ and accusing him of having ā€œa history of pushing Black candidates out of races.ā€ Nonetheless, in a new development, Adams reversed course, stating he now intends to campaign alongside Cuomo in communities where he maintains strong support.

ā€œIt is crucial to really wake up the communities of color that have experienced gentrification on how important this race is,ā€ Adams remarked.

Adams continued, ā€œThey have watched their rents increase in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been ignored in those areas, and I’m going to go to those neighborhoods and talk directly with community leaders and organizations and I’m going to walk with the governor in those areas and get them engaged.ā€

Election Landscape and Current Developments

The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the contest between the former governor and democratic socialist his main rival, whose growing support has made headlines globally and symbolized aspirations for a revitalized leftwing of the Democrats.

In a recent candidate forum, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate his conservative opponent announced they would decline Adams’s endorsement if extended.

Earlier this year, Adams had begun his re-election campaign as an unaffiliated candidate after being indicted on federal corruption charges which were later dismissed in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with government enforcement actions across the city.

At an unrelated press conference on the same day, the mayor answered journalists inquiring into the support announcement by stating, ā€œI’ll be with Andrew this evening.ā€

This development came a day after Adams and Cuomo were seen sitting courtside together at the the NBA team's first game at the famous arena, which took place immediately following a heated mayoral debate.
