Iconic Singer Barry Manilow Will Have Surgery for Lung Cancer.

Barry Manilow announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer of the lung and is set to have an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The octogenarian performer, known for a string of high-spirited hits from "Mandy" established him as one of pop music’s enduringly popular entertainers, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to fight off the illness, which is detected early.

ā€œFor those who have been following, I recently endured six weeks of a severe cough followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

ā€œEven though I was recovered from the illness and performing again at the Westgate Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to ensure that there were no issues.

ā€œThe MRI detected a cancerous spot on my left side that must be removed. It’s incredible chance (and a fantastic physician) that it was caught so early.ā€

Concert Delays

He has rescheduled a number of forthcoming concerts, but suggested he would be returning to perform by the February holiday for his enduring concert series in Las Vegas.

He went on to say: ā€œThe physicians do not believe it has metastasized and I’m undergoing further tests to verify their assessment. So, that’s it. Chemo is not needed. No radiation. Just chicken soup and I Love Lucy reruns.

ā€œI’m looking forward to until I return to my familiar venue for our Vegas run for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.ā€

A Long Career and Personal Life

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a show in Nevada. The singer has been in the limelight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after wedding his partner of many years, Garry Kief in secret in 2014.

The duo were in a discreet relationship for over 35 years. Recently, Manilow discussed how crucial his partner had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

ā€œAs my career exploded, it was just crazy. And, you know, returning to an lonesome hotel suite, you can get into a lot of difficulty if you, you know, you’re alone evening after evening,ā€ he said.

ā€œBut I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I no longer had to go back to those isolated suites. I had a person to cry with or to share joys with.

ā€œI hope that young people don’t have to go back to those hotel rooms by themselves, because you might succumb to pitfalls. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was fun.ā€
