HBO's It Spinoff Releases Second Sooner Than Planned on HBO's Digital Service

Excitement is building for the Stephen King adaptation the Derry series, which is earning acclaim and drawing from references from additional King stories. Just one day after launch, the network has revealed that episode two will debut sooner than expected, timed perfectly for October 31st.

Premiere Shift Details

Starting on the last day of October at midnight PT, episode two of the Derry prequel will launch on the streaming service, ahead of its linear broadcast. Future chapters of the series run will be released on Sunday nights on both HBO and its streaming arm, leading up to the season finale on Sunday, December 14.

Series Overview

Set in the world of King's It, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while expanding on the universe realized by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The first It movie centered on young characters facing supernatural evils, so it’s fitting that this show follows in those footsteps. Yet, the first installment of HBO’s Welcome to Derry demonstrates it intended to increase the tension, delivering heightened horror than the movies and establishing a harsh vibe for what's to come.

Story World and Concepts

Taking place in the 1960s, the program presents a fresh cast of adults and children living in a apparently peaceful community concealing a sinister core. The town follows a brutal, periodic loop—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a monstrous presence resurfaces every 27 years. While the series might appear like it skews too close to the movies on the surface, what distinguishes the digital program is its parallel storytelling—narrated via the viewpoints of young and old concurrently. Children stay highly exposed to It's terror, but the adults also face confronting their individual fears arising from Derry’s deep-seated bigotry and lurking supernatural forces.

Episode 2 debuts on the 31st of October at 12 a.m. Pacific Time.
